Johann Michael Koneberg

Johann Michael Koneberg (* 1733 in Dietmannsried ; † 1802 ) was a court painter to the Prince Abbot of Kempten . From 1768 he was the successor of Franz Georg Hermann and the last court painter to the princely before the secularization.

life and work

Koneberg was born in Dietmannsried in 1733. In 1764 or 1765 he married Katharina Feneberg. Johann Michael Koneberg completed the portraits of prince abbots and created various altar leaves for the monastery.

Ceiling frescoes by Koneberg can be found in the church of Betzigau , the Heiligkreuz monastery and the church of Martinszell . Altar paintings from Koneberg can be found in Altusried , Wiggensbach and Kimratshofen .

Koneberg's main work is a cycle of 20 frescoes from the life of Mary, which can be seen in the parish church of Our Lady Visitation of Langenegg in Vorarlberg (Austria). Koneberg was busy painting the church in 1776.

Johann Michael Koneberg died in 1802.

A number of works by Koneberg were purchased by the Friends of Kemptener Museen - fkm eV for the city of Kempten and are exhibited in the Allgäu Museum of the Kornhaus in Kempten.
