The Roman Catholic parish church of Langenegg stands on the eastern edge of the Bregenzerwald community of Langenegg in the Bregenz district in Vorarlberg , the west facade facing the street. It is surrounded by a cemetery. The church is dedicated to the feast of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary and belongs to the deanery of Vorderwald-Kleinwalsertal . The church is a listed building .

history

In 1624 the consecration of a chapel is mentioned in a document. In 1764 a new building took place. The building that exists today was carried out in 1775 by Hans Konrad Nussbaumer and Konrad Mennel . In 1767 the church was elevated to the status of a Kuratienkirche , in 1821 a parish. A comprehensive restoration was carried out between 1965 and 1967.

The church consists of a hall, four window axes long, and a single-axis, retracted choir with a polygonal closure. The church tower in the northern choir corner was raised in 1868. The eight-sided bell storey has arched sound windows and a hood with a lantern . The sacristy adjoins the tower in the east . It has arched windows. The round arched west portal has a profiled stone garment with a keystone marked with the year 1775. Above the nave and choir there is a flat ceiling over lateral covings , into which stitch caps cut on pieces of cornice . The structure of the pilaster strips is painted. The west gallery rests on three-axis basket arch arcades with wooden supports. The basket arched triumphal arch separates the choir from the nave. The one-yoke choir has a 3/8 end.

The ceiling and wall paintings are documented from the year 1776 by Johann Michael Koneberg and are considered his main work. The main images are in curved quatrefoil fields with a profiled frame. " Esther before Ahasver " is shown in the choir . On the side are medallions depicting the four evangelists. In the nave, scenes from the life of Mary are depicted: “ The Birth of Mary ”, “ The Assumption of the Virgin ” and the “Marriage of Mary”. In the corners are medallions depicting " Candlemas ", " Assumption of the Temple ", " Visitation of Mary " and " Annunciation ". Between the stitch caps there are grisaille depictions of the four church fathers as well as the two church doctors, St. Bonaventure and St. Ambrose of Milan . The "expulsion of the merchants from the temple" is depicted on the lower ceiling of the gallery. There are remarkable depictions of women in Bregenzerwald costume on the painting . Allegories of the three divine virtues are depicted on the parapet . The mural on the north side of the choir shows the “ Last Supper ” and was uncovered between 1965 and 1967.

Furnishing

The altar was made by Johann Steurer in 1776, presumably based on plans by Johann Michael Koneberg. The version is by Joachim Benedikt Gartenschmid . The high altar stands on a high base with a column structure with curved entablature pieces and a curved extension over volutes . The altar sheet showing the “rosary donation” and the top picture showing the “ Coronation of Mary ” are by Johann Michael Koneberg. The statues on the side by Leopold Feuerstein represent St. Konrad and St. Martin . The tabernacle is decorated with a crucifix.

The left side altar is a baroque aedicula with a late Gothic statue of the Madonna from the beginning of the 16th century. It was restored in 1962. The right side altar is also a Baroque aedicula with an altar sheet depicting St. Anthony , by Johann Michael Koneberg in 1789. The pulpit was built around 1776. The figure of the Archangel Michael is on the cover . The console statues in the nave from the last quarter of the 18th century show a Mater Dolorosa , St. Gebhard and St. Ulrich .

Remigius Haaser built the organ in 1840, and in 1962 it was modernized.
