v. Vanotti (c. 1830/40)

Johann Nepomuk Vanotti , from 1838 by Vanotti , (born December 28, 1777 in Freiburg im Breisgau , † November 21, 1847 in Rottenburg am Neckar ) was a German historian and Catholic theologian .

Life

Vanotti studied theology, philosophy and oriental languages at the University of Freiburg . He was able to successfully complete this course and on April 19, 1804 was awarded the title “Dr. theol. " PhD . He was ordained a priest on April 6, 1801 . Immediately after his doctorate, Vanotti was appointed pastor in Ehingen (Danube) and at the same time administrator of the deanery . He held this office until 1828.

Vanotti was a member of the Württemberg assembly of estates and was held in high regard by the Württemberg royal family. Johann Nepomuk Vanotti entered the history of the city of Ehingen as a theologian and teacher, but especially as a co-founder of the Ehingen grammar school , which emerged in 1825 from the former Latin school . In October 2007 the school was named after him and is now called Johann-Vanotti-Gymnasium Ehingen.

Johann Nepomuk Vanotti has also made a name for himself in the field of local history research. Of particular value to Ehingen is his work “History of the Upper Official City of Ehingen”. His preference was to research the Roman times in the Ehingen area. Vanotti is considered to be the discoverer of the Roman road south of the bus , he found it from Ennetach to Riississen . Numerous contributions from his hand can be found in the descriptions of the upper office , which are still highly valued by scientists , especially those for the Upper Swabian higher offices. His work deserves special mention: History of the Counts of Montfort and von Werdenberg .

As the longest serving Catholic dean, Vanotti had a seat and vote in the Württemberg Chamber of Deputies from 1820 to 1828 .

In 1828 Vanotti, who had meanwhile been promoted to the church council, left the Danube city of Ehingen, which had become his home, and went to Rottenburg am Neckar as cathedral chapter .

Vanotti was honored in 1838 with the commentary cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown , which was associated with the elevation into the Württemberg personnel nobility.
