Johann Peter Josten

Johann Peter Josten (born July 15, 1915 in Oberwesel ; † October 23, 2011 there ) was a German CDU politician .

Life and work

Josten, who was a Roman Catholic , left high school at the age of 14 and completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter, which he completed in 1932 with the journeyman's examination. In the same year he joined the Kolping Family . After a few years as a journeyman, he attended evening classes at the municipal trade school. In 1941 he passed the master craftsman examination and a year later the master craftsman and carpenter examination. After he was seriously wounded in the Soviet Union in World War II , the Wehrmacht gave him study leave to attend the carpenter's college in Detmold .

He was married and the father of six children.

Political party

Josten had been a member of the CDU since 1946. He was a co-founder of the Junge Union and the CDU in his home town of Oberwesel and was also a member of their board of directors. From 1951 to 1958 he was state chairman of the Junge Union in Rhineland-Palatinate . Until his death he was honorary chairman of the Mittelstands- und Wirtschaftsvereinigung (MIT) of the CDU in Rhineland-Palatinate.

MP

Josten was from 1946 to 1958 a member of the district council in the district of Sankt Goar and there also chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. From 1947 to 1953 he was a member of the state parliament in Rhineland-Palatinate. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1953 to 1980 and from 1956 was also a member of the Defense Committee of the German Bundestag . He represented the constituency of Ahrweiler in parliament.

Public offices

From 1980 to 1989 Josten was mayor of Oberwesel.
