Johann Philipp Geigel

Johann Philipp Geigel (* 1729/1731; † April 9, 1800 ) was a German builder , court chamber councilor and court building officer at the transition from baroque to classicism .

Life

Geigel is documented for the first time in archives in 1757 in Würzburg , where he is named as court building officer. In 1760 he acquired civil rights there and was finally appointed court chamber councilor by the Würzburg prince-bishop in 1765. One of his most important works is the Michaelskirche in Würzburg, which was created between 1765 and 1773 in collaboration with Johann Michael Fischer . Other buildings in Würzburg are the arcades on Residenzplatz, as well as the ambassador's building built directly next to the Residenz.

Geigel also worked outside the city. He created the parish church of the Assumption of Mary in Scheinfeld (1766–71), the nave of the parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Bütthard (1769–71), the old parish church of St. Jakobus (1772–75) in Bad Kissingen , the branch church of St. Maria in Rengersbrunn (1777), the parish church of St. Valentinus in Rohrbach (1776–1778), the parish church of St. Georg in Zellingen (1785–87), the well construction in Bad Bocklet (1787) and the former rectory in Bad Kissingen ( 1791).
