Johann Röttel

Johann Röttel (* in Hallein ; † February 28, 1450 in Brixen ; also Johannes Röttel ) was Bishop of Brixen from 1444 until his death .

Life

Johann Röttel came from a middle-class family. He was initially domiciliary in Freising . In 1411 he applied for a cathedral canonical in Regensburg. In 1414 he received the provost office from Maria Saal in Carinthia and in 1418 a canonical in Brixen. From 1414 to 1445 he worked as a papal Abbreviator , in the meantime he studied in Bologna from 1419 to 1422 . In 1432 he took over the office of Scholasticus in Brixen and was vicar general in this diocese from 1442–1444 .

On January 4, 1444 Johann Röttel was elected Bishop of Brixen, he received the episcopal ordination after a delayed confirmation by Pope Felix V on February 28, 1445 by three auxiliary bishops . Duke Sigmund appointed him chancellor in Innsbruck in 1447 after Johann Röttel had supported the duke financially.
