Johann Spreng

Johannes Spreng (* 1524 in Augsburg ; † March 30, 1601 ibid) was an Augsburg mastersinger and member of the local singing school.

Life

Unlike most of the representatives of his guild , he did not practice a trade , but was a translator and from 1594 a notary . To supplement suitable song texts , he translated parts of the Virgilian poem Aeneid and the entire Homeric poem Iliad into German and set them in rhyming verses .
