Gallenstein's best-known work is the poem “Da, wo Tirol borders on Salzburg”, which appeared in the magazine “ Carinthia ” on November 2, 1822 and whose first three stanzas now form the first three stanzas of the Carinthian Heimatlied. The fourth stanza was not included in the anthem and reads:
And the Kaiseraar spreads
his wings over Austria's house
-
Then too, uncovered by enemies,
His winged pair Karenta covers;
And Francis's hand stretches out
over you, my fatherland!
In his poetry, the history of Carinthia is often the subject, as in his romantic-historical stories: 14 of 20 ballads and 22 of 33 stories deal with this topic. They were mainly published in the "Carinthia" and in the "Kärntnerische Monatsschrift". Characteristic of the stories is a flowery prose, pure morality and a fiery love of the country. The theme and technique of the stories are, however, fairly uniform. Numerous stories take place in the 13th century. This includes the story "Duke Bernhard and his court", which depicts the heyday of Carinthia under Bernhard von Spanheim .
Gallenstein's dramas have been classified as romantic-historical. The piece “The Siege of St. Veit in 1442” dates from 1826 and “Emperor Karl V in Villach” from 1829.
