Johann Weinhart (born November 23, 1925 in Salzburg , Austria ; † November 24, 2019 ) was an Austrian sculptor . He lived and worked in Biberwier-Fernpaß , Tyrol .

Life

Weinhart attended school in Salzburg and learned the carpentry trade from 1940 to early 1943 during the war years. Labor service and imprisonment in Russia followed. Weinhart, who was declared missing, returned to Salzburg at the end of 1945. From 1946 to 1948 he attended the Federal College for Wood and Stone Processing in Hallein. As an excellent student, Weinhart had the opportunity to spend a year training with the 71-year-old Academy Professor Fritz Behn in Ehrwald . Weinhart worked as a stonemason in Salzburg for five years before moving to Biberwier in 1958. Weinhart made his living as a rifle stocker for years. From 1972 Weinhart worked as a freelance sculptor. In his work, Weinhart deals with issues of humanity shaped by a Christian-humanistic worldview.

Services

Weinhart experimentally developed his own casting option for bronze sculptures, starting in 1976, with a simplification in the work steps and an expansion in the casting options. He also makes his large sculptures in his own workshop. An extensive oeuvre was created. Much of his work is in public space.
