Oldenburger See and the surrounding area is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein communities of Lehmrade , Brunsmark and Horst in the Duchy of Lauenburg .

The approximately 123  hectare nature reserve is registered under the number 127 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was expelled in 1986 (date of regulation: September 24, 1986). The nature reserve is located within the Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park . It is congruent with the FFH and EU bird sanctuary of the same name . The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Duchy of Lauenburg district.

The nature reserve is located south-east of Mölln in a swampy terrain sink . It protects the silting Oldenburg Lake , a dystrophic moor lake with its open water areas and the adjacent silting zones as well as a moor and quarry forest surrounding the lake . In the vicinity of the lake, moist deciduous forests and wet grassland are included in the nature reserve.

The area around the Oldenburger See was previously drained, as a result of which the lake lost more than 2/3 of its area in the 20th century. In the 1980s, however, the areas were bought up and renatured by the Duchy of Lauenburg and the environmental foundation WWF Germany . The predominantly shallow lake thus became a habitat for cranes who breed here, but also use the lake as a gathering and resting place during the bird migration .

The nature reserve is mainly surrounded by agricultural land .
