Lanken is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein communities of Elmenhorst , Fuhlenhagen , Basthorst , Möhnsen , Havekost and Grove in the Duchy of Lauenburg .

The name is derived from the Slavic toponym Lanke .

The approximately 256 hectare nature reserve is registered under number 203 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was declared at the end of 2009 (date of regulation: November 20, 2009). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Duchy of Lauenburg district.

The nature reserve, which consists of two parts, is located northeast of Schwarzenbek . It includes part of the 600 hectare and used by the end of 1994 the former site training area "flanks" of the woods Lindhorst and Ahrenshorst and a part of the upper reaches of Steinau with their shore areas. It is characterized by different habitats, including open and semi-open landscapes with pioneer lawns, mineral grass corridors, perennial borders, small bodies of water and wet grassland with interspersed woody areas and hedgerows as well as wet and wet forests. Partial areas within the nature reserve are used for agriculture. Abandoned former agricultural areas are being taken over by succession fauna. The Steinau lowland in the north of the nature reserve is still partially natural.

In the nature reserve are u in the different habitats. a. Silver grass , hawkweed , high cowslip and swamp sword lily can be found. The nature reserve is the habitat of various bird and amphibian species , grasshoppers and dragonflies , including skylark , partridge , tree frog , green hay horse and blue-green damsel .
