The Stecknitz-Delvenau-Niederung is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein communities of Büchen , Bröthen , Witzeeze , Dalldorf and Lanze in the Duchy of Lauenburg .

General

The approximately 617  hectare nature reserve is registered under number 189 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was expelled in 2002. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Duchy of Lauenburg district.

The nature reserve extends to the Delvenau valley between Büchen and Lauenburg / Elbe . It places the lowland and adjacent areas under protection. The approximately 15-kilometer-long river course of the Delvenau, including an approximately 10-meter-wide edge strip on the west bank, also forms the 63-hectare FFH area “Stecknitz-Delvenau”. In the east, the nature reserve largely borders on the " Stecknitz-Delvenau " nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , which is congruent with the FFH area of ​​the same name. To the east of Basedow it borders on the nature reserve " Former excavator pit east of Basedow ", on the Elbe on the nature reserves " Lauenburger Elbvorland " and " Elbhang Vierwald ". The nature reserve is part of the Green Belt . The northern area of ​​the protected area lies within the Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park . In some parts the nature reserve borders the Elbe-Lübeck Canal in the west . Several gravel ponds south of Büchen on the east bank of the canal are not included in the nature reserve.

The area is characterized by a wide valley that was formed at the end of the last ice age as part of a historical cultural landscape, through which the low-slope and naturally meandering lower reaches of the Delvenau flow. It is often accompanied by grassland , sometimes also by arable land . In addition, there are reeds - and successional areas, Hochstaudenfluren and dry grasslands , sometimes even small are forest areas to find. The nature reserve provides a habitat for a variety of animals and plants. There are around 170 butterfly and 20 dragonfly species here . The area is crossed by streets at Büchen, Dalldorf and Lauenburg. The Berlin-Hamburg railway runs through the protected area near Büchen . A hiking trail runs between Büchen-Dorf and Witzeeze , south of Dalldorf on the western edge of the nature reserve.

The areas in the nature reserve are partly private usable areas. These will continue to be managed taking into account the protective purpose. Further areas were bought by the Duchy of Lauenburg and the Schleswig-Holstein Nature Conservation Foundation and taken out of use or only managed to a limited extent. The nature reserve is looked after by the Schleswig-Holstein State Association of the Federation for Environment and Nature Conservation Germany as well as the Nature Conservation Association Germany , the Botanical Association of Hamburg, the Sports and Fishing Association Büchen and the Heimatbund and History Association Geesthacht.
