The Culpiner See is a lake and a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein community of Mustin in the Duchy of Lauenburg .
Nature reserve
The approximately 30 hectare nature reserve is entered with the number 159 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was expelled in 1993 (date of regulation: October 8, 1993). The nature reserve is part of the FFH area "Schaalsee with adjacent forests and lakes" and the EU bird sanctuary "Schaalsee area". It lies on the edge of the Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park and borders directly on the Schaalsee Biosphere Reserve . The nature reserve is part of the Green Belt . The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Duchy of Lauenburg district.
The nature reserve is located east of Ratzeburg directly on the state border with Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in an agricultural landscape. It encompasses Lake Culpiner See and the bank area surrounding it with the adjoining slopes, on which steep edges are sometimes formed. There are many trees growing on the slopes.
The Culpiner See with its bank areas is a regionally important breeding , moulting and resting water for various bird species. There was a cormorant colony at Lake Culpiner , but it was abandoned at the beginning of the 21st century due to the regular presence of sea eagles .
