Life

Johann Wilhelm Heinrich Conradi was the son of Johann Ludwig Conradi and his wife Anna Florentine, who died in 1835, and was born in Marburg on September 22, 1780 and attended a grammar school in Hanau . From Easter 1797 he studied medicine at the University of Marburg . He received his doctorate on January 13, 1802 . Already at Easter he took over a teaching position , was promoted to extraordinary professor in 1803 and promoted to full professor two years later. In 1809 he was given the management of the polyclinic , in 1812 he became director of the inpatient clinic of a hospital, the construction of which he himself had helped to build. Conradi took over a professorship in medicine and headed the Heidelberg University Clinic in autumn 1814. He also received requests that he should take on positions; first from the University of Bonn in 1818 , then from the one in Berlin and finally from the University of Göttingen ; however, he declined all of the offers. When the latter university offered another position in 1823, Conradi took it. He initially took over the polyclinical institute and later (1837) the academic hospital, which he headed until 1853, when he was 50 years old as a professor; However, he retained his teaching activity.

As a doctor, university professor and clinic director, Conradi apparently did a good job and was not only popular with his students. In 1812 the government offered him a position as councilor , in 1819 he was promoted to the secret councilor and in 1852 to the chief medical officer . In addition, he was a knight of the Guelph Order and belonged to several learned societies, including the Göttingen Academy of Sciences (since 1823). In 1853 he had also received an honorary doctorate in philosophy from the Göttingen Faculty of Philosophy. He died on June 17, 1861 at the age of 80.

Conradi's first marriage was to Johanna Friederike Schreidt, who died before 1824 and comes from Hanau, after whose death he married Johanna Marie Ernestine in Göttingen, who was born in 1799 and lived until 1857. The first marriage has five sons and a daughter, the second marriage has two sons.

The Conradistraße on the Marburger Lahnberge is named after Conradi.
