Johann Wolf (theologian, 1653)

Johann Wolf (born November 30, 1653 in Löbejün , † May 19, 1695 in Hamburg ) was a German Lutheran theologian , most recently chief pastor in Hamburg.

Life

Wolf was born the son of Mayor Christian Wolf. He attended school in Sangerhausen and then studied theology in Wittenberg . He completed his studies in 1674 with the title Magister and then taught at the same university as a lecturer until 1680 . During these years he wrote a number of disputations. In 1680 he acquired his doctorate and took up a position as superintendent in Wernigerode . He was elected chief pastor of the Nikolaikirche in Hamburg in May 1695 , but was only able to exercise the office for a few months until he died.

Wolf married Anna Elisabeth Haberstroh in Wernigerode in 1682. The marriage resulted in four children, three sons and a daughter, including the theologian Johann Christoph Wolf and the philologist Johann Christian Wolf .

During his time as a lecturer in Wittenberg, Wolf wrote a large number of Latin theological writings. Sermons and occasional pamphlets have also been received from him .
