Johann Wolfgang Kipping

Johann Wolfgang Kipping (born April 2, 1695 in Bayreuth , † February 2, 1747 in Helmstedt ) was a German lawyer and professor at the University of Helmstedt .

Live and act

Johann Wolfgang Kipping studied law in Jena and Halle. Christian Thomasius, a natural lawyer, was one of his academic teachers .

After completing his studies, he first took up practical work and in 1720 became an adjunct at the court secretary Langen in Bayreuth. In 1724 he became margravial secretary at the Bayreuth prince's court, in 1727 archivist and in 1728 secret secretary and councilor. After the death of Margrave Friedrich Karl he was dismissed.

Kipping now embarked on an academic career and held legal lectures at the University of Jena as a private lecturer. In 1737 he was offered a chair for constitutional law and history at the philosophical faculty of the University of Helmstedt . After receiving his doctorate in law in 1741, he was also given a full professorship in law and became an assessor in the law faculty. Kipping died in 1747. At his death he was over-indebted; the university took over the regulation of the estate.

The scientific works of Kipping were mainly devoted to canon law .
