Johann von Fleischmann (born March 24, 1771 in Ingolstadt , † December 27, 1853 in Munich ) was a royal Bavarian officer, most recently major general , and since 1815 a knight of the Military Max Joseph Order .

Life

Johann Ritter von Fleischmann was born the son of a Bavarian private . He joined on March 16, 1781 Tambour in the Infantry Regiment "Kurprinz" one was on May 1, 1788 Common queued and on February 16, Corporal appointed. On August 1, 1792, he switched to the 6th Fusilier Regiment "Palatine Wilhelm von Birkenfeld " as a sergent and took part in the campaigns against France with this unit in 1793 and 1794 as well as 1799 and 1800 . On July 28, 1796 he was appointed battalion adjutant and promoted to sub-lieutenant on September 18, 1799 .

Transferred to the newly established 13th Line Infantry Regiment in September 1805 , Fleischmann was promoted to lieutenant in his regiment on October 21, 1805 . As such took part in the years 1806 and 1807 during the Fourth Coalition War against Prussia and Russia. In the following campaign against Austria in 1809, on June 5, 1809, he was promoted to captain 2nd class in the newly established Jägerkorps, with whom he took part in the fighting against the rebels in Tyrol .

In April 1811 he was transferred to the 3rd Line Infantry Regiment "Prince Karl" . With this unit, Fleischmann defended the Thorn fortress during the Russian campaign from January 1813 . During the siege of the fortress by the Russians, Fleischmann was particularly able to distinguish himself. When defending the Kulmer Tor in April 1813, he succeeded in repelling the besiegers during a sabotage , despite overwhelming superiority. After another attack under his command, he forced the Russian troops to leave another important position. With this, the Bavarian troops had two posts that were important for the existence of the Thorn Fortress in their possession again.

After his proven award, the Chapter of the Order, held in the headquarters in Munich on September 5, 1814, under the chairmanship of General Heinrich Graf von Reuss , unanimously recognized Fleischmann's acceptance into the Military Max Joseph Order. With an army order of June 24, 1815, he was accepted as a knight in the order because of his distinction during the fighting at Thorn on April 10, 1813. Admission to the order was also associated with an elevation to the personal nobility in the Kingdom of Bavaria.

On June 25, 1813 he was promoted to captain 1st class in the 3rd line infantry regiment "Prince Karl" and took part in the battles against France in 1814 and 1815. During a foray, Captain Fleischmann was able to take the village of Bercet near Langres on January 13, 1814 . A French counterattack on the town was rejected. In a report from Lieutenant Colonel Graf von Thun to Prince Karl of Bavaria , Fleischmann and his unit were expressly mentioned in praise, also in the army order of March 7, 1814. According to the army order of March 31, 1814, he was awarded the Imperial Russian St. Order of Vladimir 4th class.

After the establishment of the Grenadier Guard Regiment (later Infantry Leib Regiment) in July 1814, Captain Fleischmann was transferred to this unit and promoted to Major on October 16, 1815 . In 1825, with an army order of October 9, 1825, Major Fleischmann was subsequently awarded the Order of the French Legion of Honor for his bravery and circumspection during the siege of Thorn in 1813 , and the Cross of the Order of Louis on December 16, 1827 .

When the Grenadier Guard Regiment was reorganized into a line infantry regiment in December 1825, Fleischmann stayed with this unit. On January 1, 1832 to lieutenant colonel promoted the 2nd Line Infantry Regiment "Crown Prince", he returned on 27 June 1832 in the same rank, back to the Infantry Life Guards and was promoted on May 22, 1836 to its commander , the rank of a colonel . After Colonel Fleischmann had received the Imperial Russian Order of St. Anna 2nd Class with diamonds in September 1838 , he retired on April 27, 1841 with the character of Major General.

Johann Ritter von Fleischmann died on December 27, 1853, at the age of 82, in Munich.
