Johanna Steiner (born November 5, 1983 in Worms ) is a German radio play author and director . With her radio play overnight she was nominated for the German Audio Book Prize 2013.

biography

After graduating from high school and a voluntary social year in the field of culture , Johanna Steiner studied general linguistics , comparative literature and journalism at the Technical University of Berlin . Parallel to her studies, which she completed with the academic degree Magister Artium , in 2006 she took up a job at Oliver Rohrbeck's Hörspielverlag Lauscherlounge . From 2010 to 2016 she was employed as a director and author as well as an editorial staff in the publisher's own radio play studio Xberg , and she was also freelance.

She directed audio books for the recordings of Rachel Joyce's novel The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry , for which the interpreter Heikko Deutschmann was nominated for the 2013 Hörkules . As assistant director Johanna Steiner was involved in the radio play production Die Vögel by and with Katja Riemann . In addition, she supported Kai Schwind in the “ The three ??? “Live tour 2014“ Phonophobia ”and assisted in various radio play productions for RbbKultur (including Sven Stricker ( Lilith) or Kai-Uwe Kohlschmidt (Exodus Namib) ).

Johanna Steiner made her first in-house production, Spell me Truck , a road radio play from 2009 available for free download on the Internet. Since 2012 she has adapted six thrillers by Sebastian Fitzek as unabridged radio play adaptations for Audible . With "The Gift" (RBB 2014) and "The Scoundrel from the Mixer" (RBB / WDR 2018) she staged two children's radio plays for public radio stations.

However, Johanna Steiner mainly attracted attention through her radio play Overnight , which describes the crossing paths and fates of three people on New Year's Eve. The audio production with actors such as Julia Hummer , Tom Schilling and Fritzi Haberlandt , published in November 2011, appeared on the audio book best list in January 2012 . In the “Best Radio Play” category, overnight was also nominated for the 2013 German Audio Book Prize.

In 2017 Johanna Steiner was one of the nominees for the “Young Excellence Award”, which has been presented annually since 2014 by the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels together with the industry magazine Börsenblatt . The award honors “outstanding young doers up to the age of 39 who make a difference in the book industry”.

In 2019 she directed the first " Bibi & Tina " live radio play production, which premiered on May 5, 2019 in Berlin 's Huxleys Neue Welt . For the first time the original speakers of the radio play series appeared in front of an audience and performed a "Bibi & Tina" radio play with a noisemaker live on stage . The recording of the evening was also published later.

Johanna Steiner lives in Berlin.
