Johannes Bauer (born January 8, 1937 in Augsburg ) is a German local politician . From 1965 to 1968 he was Lord Mayor of the city of Lindenberg in the Allgäu and from 1968 to 1980 of the Swabian city ​​of Memmingen .

Johannes Bauer was born on January 8, 1937, to a family of civil servants in Augsburg. From 1943 he attended elementary school in Augsburg, and after the evacuation of Augsburg the elementary school Willmatshofen in the Augsburg district . In 1947 he entered the secondary school at the Blauenkap in Augsburg. There he successfully graduated from high school in 1956 . In the winter semester of 1956, he began studying law and political science at the University of Munich. In 1958 he moved to the University of Erlangen. In order to secure his livelihood, he worked during his studies as a student trainee, construction assistant and assistant clerk at Deutsche Rentenversicherung Schwaben . Furthermore, he worked in various organizations during his studies. He was also a co-founder of the social democratic union of universities in Erlangen and deputy head of an international student home. He joined the SPD in 1957. He passed his first state examination in law in 1960 and completed his legal traineeship in the Munich Higher Regional Court district and at the courts and administrative authorities in Augsburg. During this time he also worked in law firms in Augsburg.

On October 22, 1960, he married his wife, Barbara Hübner. He earned his doctorate in both rights in 1963 with cum laude . He passed the second state examination in law in 1964. Before taking the oral exam, he began working in the field of foreign trade and transport at the Augsburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry . On December 1, 1964, he moved to the Augsburg Administrative Court as a government assessor . He was elected mayor of the district town of Lindenberg in Allgäu on July 4, 1965. Only three years later he was elected Lord Mayor of the independent city of Memmingen on November 10, 1968 . The turnout was 83.15 percent and he received about 57 percent of the vote. In the next election in 1974 he was confirmed in office with no opposing candidates and a high voter turnout of 96.9 percent. In 1979 he decided not to run again. In the 1980 election, Ivo Holzinger succeeded him as Lord Mayor of Memmingen.

After leaving office, Johannes Bauer moved to Bonn for Bayerische Landesbank. This was followed by the chairmanship of the board of directors at Bayerische Wohnungsbauaktiengesellschäft, and later he was a board member of the Schörghuber Group.

He has four children with his wife and now lives on Lake Starnberg .
