Johannes Corfinius

Johannes Corfinius , also Corvinus or Johann Korff (* 1616 in Rostock ; † 19 May 1664 in Hamburg ), was a Lutheran theologian, professor at the University of Rostock and pastor in Rostock and Hamburg.

Life

Johannes Corfinius was the son of the deacon of the same name of the Rostock Jakobikirche Johann Corfinius (1574-1638) and his wife Elisabeth Pauli († 1635), daughter of the professor of theology and superintendent at the Jakobikirche Simon Pauli (the elder) .

After attending the Rostock city school, he studied theology at the universities in Rostock and Greifswald . 1639 he was appointed as Nachnachfolger his father deacon at the Church of St. James, in 1641 the doctorate in the Master in Rostock. In 1645 he became archdeacon at the Marienkirche in Rostock . In 1649 he was appointed pastor there and at the same time appointed council professor of physics and metaphysics at the Philosophical Faculty of Rostock University. For licentiate he was in 1650 and Dr. theol. Doctorate in 1651. From 1652 to 1653 he was a council professor of morals and in 1652 rector of the university. In 1653 he moved to the Katharinenkirche in Hamburg as the main pastor . He held this office until his death in 1664.

Johannes Corfinius was married to Maria Brauer, a daughter of the citizen and member of the Hundred Men College Conrad Brauer zu Rostock.
