Johannes Hagnauer

Johannes I. Hagnauer († 1500 in Muri ) was a Swiss Benedictine monk . From 1480 until his death he was abbot of the Muri monastery in the free offices (in today's canton of Aargau ).

biography

Hagnauer came from a noble Zurich family. As the second youngest member of the convent, he was elected abbot on August 4, 1480. Confirmation by the Diocese of Constance followed on August 29 of the same year. Under his leadership, the abbey acquired the collation of the parishes of Boswil and Wohlen in 1483 . Hagnauer died between February 10th and April 30th 1500. In keeping with the zeitgeist of the time, he had ignored celibacy ; he left four children.
