Johannes Jung OSB (born July 5, 1952 in Vienna , Austria ; actually Peter Jung ) is an Austrian Benedictine . Since 2009 he has been the 71st abbot of the Schottenstift in Vienna.

Life

After graduating from the Schottengymnasium in Vienna and completing basic military service, Jung studied history and German philology at the University of Vienna . From 1975 he taught at the Schottengymnasium.

In 1981 he entered the Scottish Abbey and studied theology . In 1985 he made perpetual profession ; on June 3, 1988 he was ordained a priest . In the same year he was appointed prior of the Schottenkloster under the newly elected Abbot Heinrich Ferenczy ; he held this office until 2004. From 2004 to 2009 he was the director of the Schottengymnasium.

After Ferenczy's resignation, Jung was elected administrator of the monastery for a period of three years in 2006. On April 3, 2009 he was elected 71st abbot of the Schottenstift . On June 10, 2009 he received the abbot's benediction from the Archbishop of Vienna , Christoph Cardinal Schönborn, in the Schottenkirche . His motto is Verbum bonum ("good word").

Jung is deputy chairman of the Order Conference for Vienna-Eisenstadt and a member of the Monastic Commission of the Austrian Benedictine Congregation . He still teaches religion and history at the Schottengymnasium.
