Life

Kober wanted to study theology first and prepared for it with a seminar in Maulbronn . Due to constant headaches, he had to change jobs and became an apprentice pharmacist in the pharmacy in Mainhardt . He was an assistant in various pharmacies, most recently in Nagold . From 1866 to 1867 he studied pharmacy at the University of Tübingen and passed his pharmacy exam there in 1867. He then worked for a year as an employed pharmacist in the Golden Pharmacy in Basel.

After further scientific studies, he leased the Oeffinger pharmacy in Nagold as a son-in-law. After his brother-in-law took over the pharmacy, he moved to Basel, where he studied zoology and anatomy and did his doctorate with an anatomical thesis. In 1879 he joined the Goldene Apotheke as a partner, from which he left ten years later to take over the Holbein pharmacy in Basel.

Johannes Kober worked scientifically as a zoologist and wrote a work on the mole , a natural history of animals, a comparative work on ammonites of the Swabian and Swiss Jura, and a biography of Christian Friedrich Spittler , the founder of the St. Chrischona pilgrimage mission . He did his scientific work in the evening after work in the pharmacy. In addition, he founded a chemical , physiological and bacteriological laboratory in his Holbein pharmacy and received tests from doctors in Basel.
