Johannes Pontisella the Younger (* 1552 in Chur ; † July 3, 1622 ibid) was a Swiss Reformed clergyman .

Life

Johannes Pontisella the Younger was born in Chur in 1552 , the son of the headmaster of the same name . In 1567 he attended the Schola Tigurina in Zurich . Three years later he studied theology at the University of Heidelberg . He can be traced back to Chur in 1573 when he took part in the settlement of the dispute between Tobias Egli and Johannes Gantner . During this time he was probably also a teacher at the Nikolaischule h, where he had conflicts with Ulrich Campell . When he was relieved of his office, Pontisella was appointed as his successor as pastor at the Regulakirche in 1574 . He did not neglect his apprenticeship. In the year after his appointment as pastor, the Evangelical-Rhaetian Synod accepted him . In the same year, Heinrich Bullinger , who played the role of a mentor for his father and also had contacts with Johannes Pontisella the Younger, commissioned him to write a paper on the history of Graubünden . Whether or not he actually carried out the job cannot be answered today, at least there are no indications of such work.

Since Pontisella was known as a good preacher and pastor, the Chur city council decided in 1604 that Pontisella should also take over the pastor's position in St. Martin's Church , because the pastor Paul Floren was accused of negligence and refusal to perform official duties . This led to a negative result; for example, Pontisella's sermons at Martinskirche were not valued, which led to the church losing visitors. So he was released the next year; Georg Saluz was his successor .

Pontisella took part in political talks in Chur more often. He was accused of Hispanism , which made him an opponent of France. The synod expelled Pontisella in 1606, probably because of the intrigues of the supporters of the French party. The official justification for this was Hispanism. At that time, only those who were members of the synod were allowed to be pastors in the Free State of the Three Leagues , and with his departure, Pontisella lost his parish offices. He spent the rest of his life unemployed, but continued to devote himself to theological works. He died on July 3, 1622 in Chur.
