Johannes Riedel (lawyer)

Johannes Riedel (born August 11, 1949 in Rosenheim ) is a German judge .

Life

Riedel passed the first state examination in law in 1971 and worked as a university assistant at the University of Bochum in 1972 . In 1972/1973 he completed a graduate degree ( LL.M. ) in London . After the second state examination in 1976, he was a judge at the Bonn Regional Court until 1983 and a judge at the Cologne Higher Regional Court from 1985 to 1994 . From 1983 to 1986 he was seconded to the State Judicial Examination Office in North Rhine-Westphalia.

In 1994 Riedel was appointed Vice President of the Cologne Regional Court. From 1997 he was the executive ministerial advisor, acting representative of the president of the State Judicial Examinations Office and from 2000 to 2005 himself president of this authority. During this time he was also in charge of Department V of the Ministry of Justice of North Rhine-Westphalia .

From May 2005 to November 2014 Johannes Riedel was President of the Higher Regional Court in Cologne. His appointment was blocked for a year and a half by the rival suit of the President of the Essen Regional Court , Monika Anders, which turned into a dispute up to suspicion of perjury with the former President of the Hamm Higher Regional Court, Gero Debusmann .

Riedel was also Vice President of the Constitutional Court for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia . He retired in November 2014.

Riedel is married and has three children.
