Johannes Schmitz

Johannes Schmitz (born February 17, 1869 in Reuth , † July 18, 1957 in Bonn ) was a German politician of the Center Party .

Life

Schmitz received private tuition in Paderborn and began studying theology at the Paderborn Theological Faculty after graduating in the summer semester of 1889 . After this semester he continued his studies at the Episcopal Academy in Trier and finished it in 1893. In Trier he was ordained a priest in 1893. He was then chaplain in Koblenz until 1896 and then worked as a religion teacher in Münstermaifeld until 1902 . He then studied philosophy for another year in Bonn and passed the state examination in January 1903. From 1902 to 1929 he was a religion teacher at the Progymnasium in Andernach . In 1909 he was promoted to professor and teacher.

After the death of Peter Wallenborn in 1917, Schmitz was elected to the German Reichstag on August 30, 1917 in a by-election in the constituency of Mayen - Ahrweiler (Koblenz 5). He was a member until the end of the electoral term in November 1918. During and after that, he continued to work as a teacher until he retired in 1929 and moved to Bonn. There he was appointed papal secret chamberlain on February 11, 1943 . He was later evacuated to Schalkenbach because of the Second World War , but returned to Bonn in 1945, where he died in 1957.
