Johann von Viktring

Johann von Viktring (* around 1270 ; † between July 30, 1345 and October 31, 1347 ) was a medieval historian and from 1312 until his death abbot of the Cistercian monastery Viktring near Klagenfurt .

He was the trusted court chaplain and scribe of the last Duke of Gorizia in Carinthia, Heinrich VI. of Carinthia and Tyrol , and of his daughter Margarete , then of the Habsburg Duke Albrecht II of Austria . From 1341 he wrote the work " Liber certarum historiarum " , a chronicle in six books, which recorded important events from 1217 to 1343.
