John Aloysius Ward

John Aloysius Ward (born January 24, 1929 in Doncaster near Leeds , England , † March 27, 2007 in Wales ) was a Capuchin and Archbishop of Cardiff .

Life

John Aloysius Ward joined the Order of the Capuchins (Order of the Capuchin Minor Brothers; Latin: Ordo Fratrum Minorum Capucinorum - OFMCap) on December 7, 1945 , made perpetual profession on December 25, 1950 and was ordained a priest on June 7, 1953 . From 1970 to 1980 he was Definitor General of the Capuchin Order.

In 1980 he was appointed coadjutor of the Diocese of Menevia in Wales by John Paul II . The episcopal ordination donated him on 1 October 1980. Langton Douglas Fox , Bishop of Menevia, Wales; Co- consecrators were John Aloysius Murphy , Archbishop of Cardiff, and Daniel Joseph Mullins , then Auxiliary Bishop of Cardiff. In 1983 he was appointed Archbishop of Cardiff as the successor to John Aloysius Murphy. In 2001 he was asked to resign by the Pope for sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl 30 years ago. Ward had also covered two pediatric criminal priests.
