John Chalmers

John Chalmers (born September 21, 1927 in Aberdeen ) is a Scottish orthopedist .

Life

Chalmers studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh . After his exam (MB ChB) and two years as a house officer , he began his surgical training in the British Army Medical Service (RAMC) in 1952 . In 1953 he passed the exams for a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England . From 1954 to 1957 he completed his orthopedic training in Oxford and at the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital London . After an Orthopedic Fellowship at the University of Illinois , he was a lecturer in Edinburgh from 1958 to 1961 . In 1961 he graduated with an MD in 1963 he also became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh .

As a senior lecturer and consultant , he stayed at the Royal Infirmary and Princess Margaret Rose Orthopedic Hospital for over 32 years until 1990 . After retiring, he ran a private practice until 1997 and taught in third world countries . He is known as an "orthopedist for orthopedists".

Private

He and his wife Gwyneth have four children and six grandchildren. One son is an interventional radiologist , the other a lawyer , one daughter a general practitioner in New Zealand and the other a tax advisor .

He dedicated himself to beekeeping for over 50 years .
