John Harding Lucas III (* 21st November 1982 in Washington, DC ) is an American basketball player who in the since 2005 NBA at the position of point guard play. Lucas also played in Europe and China during his career.

Career

After Lucas was not selected by any team in the 2005 NBA draft , he moved to the NBA's development league , the NBDL . There he played for the Tulsa 66ers . During the season, Lucas received several calls into the professional team of the 66ers, the Houston Rockets .

On May 10, 2006, Lucas moved to Snaidero Udinese in Italy. He stayed there for three months before signing a three-year contract with the Houston Rockets . He stayed in Houston until October 2007. He then returned to Italy and joined Bennetton Treviso . He stayed there again for a few months and then received a contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder , but did not play a game for the Thunder. In February 2009, Lucas moved back to the NBDL for the Colorado 14ers . With these he won the NBDL championship in 2009. For the rest of the season he moved to Spain to Saski Baskonia . For the 2009-10 season Lucas moved to the Chinese league for the Shanghai Sharks .

Lucas made the jump into the Chicago Bulls roster in 2010 , which he kept until January 2011. Lucas then returned to Shanghai for two months before signing again with the Bulls in March. The 2011–12 season was Lucas in the Bulls' squad and achieved career highs with 7.5 points, 1.6 rebound and 2.2 assists. After the season he joined the Toronto Raptors , for which he scored 5.3 points per game.

In July 2013, Lucas signed with the Utah Jazz . At the Jazz, he first replaced the injured Trey Burke . After Burke's recovery, Lucas dropped out of rotation due to poor performance.

In the summer of 2014, Lucas and two other players, for Carrick Felix , were transferred to the Cleveland Cavaliers and came to the Boston Celtics in another player swap . After he was released from the Celtics, he was signed by the Washington Wizards . When he was released before the start of the season, he went back to the Chinese Basketball Association to the Sturgeons from Fujian , where he played with DJ White . Most recently he played again in the NBA , with the Detroit Pistons .

Lucas is the son of John Lucas II . This was the first pick of the 1976 NBA draft and played in the NBA between 1976 and 1990. He also coached the San Antonio Spurs , Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA in the 90s and 2000s .
