John Terrence Lynch (born September 25, 1971 in Hinsdale , Illinois ) is a former American football player and current official. He played in the position of safety with the Denver Broncos and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the National Football League (NFL). He has been General Manager of the San Francisco 49ers since 2017 .

John Lynch played college football on the Stanford University team . He was elected nine times to the Pro Bowl (five times with Tampa Bay, four times with Denver) and won the Super Bowl XXXVII against the Oakland Raiders with the Buccaneers after the 2002 season .

NFL

Lynch was selected in the third round of the 1993 NFL Draft as the 82nd player by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . He played his first eleven seasons in Tampa. In 2004 he joined the Denver Broncos as a free agent after being fired from the Buccaneers.

In 2008 he ended his career. He then worked as a commentator at FOX .

John Lynch has been General Manager of the San Francisco 49ers since January 30, 2017 .
