John Mara

John Kevin Mara (born December 1, 1954 in New York City , New York ) is an American entrepreneur and owner of the NFL team New York Giants .

Career

John Mara is the eldest son of New York Giants owner Wellington Mara . His family has Irish , German and Franco-Canadian roots. He grew up in White Plains , a suburb of New York. He attended Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle and then Boston College , which he graduated with honors ( cum laude ) in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing . In 1979 he achieved a degree in Law ( Law ) at the Fordham University .

Mara worked as a lawyer ( attorney ). In 1991 he started with the Giants as Counsel ( General Counsel ) to work, later he was also Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer . After his father's death in 2005, John Mara became the owner of the franchise .

In 2010 he initiated the construction of the MetLife Stadium and brought the first Super Bowl to a cold-weather area. He is also Chairman of the NFL Management Council Executive Committee . He was primarily responsible for bringing the NFL owners to a new collective agreement with the National Football League Player Association . He spent 14 years on the NFL Competition Committee , which analyzes all aspects of the NFL and makes recommendations for changes to NFL policies and rules, as well as the NFL Health and Safety Committee and the NFL Committee on Workplace Diversity .

Private life

John Mara is the third generation owner of the New York Giants. His grandfather Tim Mara founded the New York Giants in 1925. John Mara is married to Denise W. Mara. They have five children together.
