John Neely (tennis player)

John Crosby Neely (born May 26, 1872 in Chicago , † March 22, 1941 in New York City ) was an American tennis player .

biography

Neely studied at Princeton University and graduated there in 1894. He then studied engineering at a graduate school in his own position. In 1897 he became university champion in tennis there.

Neely competed in tennis at the 1904 St. Louis Summer Olympics. In the individual , he first defeated Malcolm MacDonald and Rollin Feitshans , before he was clearly defeated in the quarterfinals to Beals Wright , who later became Olympic champion. In doubles he withdrew his participation.

Neely later was an engineer working on the South Side Elevated Railway . Other employers included Kellogg Switchboard & Supply Company, Arnold & Co. , SAE International, and LaBranche & Co. He was later a banker for a time and became the manager of the retail division of Wright & Ditson.
