John Patterson (Director)
John Tiffin Patterson (born April 4, 1940 in Cooperstown , New York - † February 27, 2005 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American director .
Life
Patterson was born in Cooperstown , New York .
John Patterson joined the United States Air Force after studying several semesters at Williams College. He graduated from the University at Buffalo and received a Masters from Stanford University in 1970. He was in a class with Sopranos inventor David Chase . Since the late 1970s he worked as a television director, with a focus on series. From 1988 to 1995 he mainly directed films.
He directed thirteen of the episodes of the television series The Sopranos from 1999 to 2004 and was nominated for an Emmy in 2002 and 2003 . He won the Directors Guild of America in 2002. He was married to Casey Kelley but later divorced. They had two children together. Patterson died in Los Angeles of prostate cancer at the age of 64.
Episode 77 of the Sopranos was dedicated to him.
