John George Prchlik (born July 20, 1925 in Cleveland , Ohio , USA , † December 31, 2003 in Fairfield Glade , Tennessee ) was an American American football player . He played, among other things, as a defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) with the Detroit Lions .

Player career

College career

John Prchlik studied at Yale University from 1943 to 1948 . He had to interrupt his studies due to his military service in the US Navy . In college , Prchlik played American football for three years, but also worked as a wrestler. Because of his sporting achievements, he was honored by his university in all four academic years. In 1948 he played with the college All-Stars against the reigning NFL champions, the Chicago Cardinals . In the same year he played in the East-West Shrine Game. In the game, two national teams meet with the best college football players .

Professional career

In 1947 Prchlik was by the Boston Yanks in the 30th round of the 277th spot drafted . The following year he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns , who were settled in the NFL competitive league All-America Football Conference (AAFC). However, Prchlik joined the Detroit Lions in 1949. In 1951, Buddy Parker became the Lions coach. He managed to form a top team from the team from Detroit with players like Jack Christiansen , Pat Harder and Dick Stanfel . Also in 1951, Prchlik became the Lions' deputy team captain . In 1952 he was able to move into the play-offs and the NFL final with his team . In the NFL final, the Cleveland Browns were defeated 17-7. The following year, the Lions were able to defend their title and again won the NFL final against the Browns 17:16.

After the game year 1953 Prchlik ended his career.

After the career

Prchlik studied during his professional career Jura . After his career, he worked in a managerial position at Ford for 29 years . He died of pancreatic cancer ; his grave is unknown.
