description

John Street Church is located at the intersection of John Street and Cochrane Street in central Glasgow. To the south is the Hutchesons' Hall ; to the north are the Glasgow City Chambers opposite. The neo-renaissance building is designed in the style of an Italian palazzo. The facade of the three-story building is eleven axes along John Street and seven axes along Cochrane Street. The masonry on the ground floor is strikingly rusticated . The outer axes protrude slightly. There are rundbögige portals admitted. They close with ornamented keystones that expand into suspicious platforms. Decorative friezes run over it . Pilasters flank the framed niches above. Between the projections extend Kolonnaden from ionic columns over two floors. Leaded glass windows are inserted between the pillars , so that the impression arises as if the pillars emerge from a glass wall. The columns carry an architrave with a crown cornice . The hipped roof is covered with slate.
