John Vallone
John Vallone (born June 23, 1953 in Pennsylvania , † March 15, 2004 in Park City , Utah ) was an American production designer and art director .
Life
Vallone began his film staff career in the late 1970s with television. After a few series and television films, he made his film debut in 1979 with Star Trek: The Movie . This was also his only feature film as art director. In 1980 he was nominated for the Oscar in the category of best production design, along with Harold Michelson , Leon Harris , Joseph R. Jennings and Linda DeScenna , but the award went to the dance film Behind the Spotlight that year .
In the 1980s he worked as a set designer on a number of major Hollywood productions ; half a dozen of them directed by Walter Hill and three action films with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the leading role. Between 1995 and 2000 he did not work for film or television, before his untimely death in 2004 he was still working on a few television productions.
