Harold Michelson

Harold Michelson (born February 15, 1920 in New York City , New York , † March 1, 2007 in Woodland Hills , California ) was an American production designer , art director and storyboard artist .

Life

Michelson began his career in film staff in 1949 as a storyboard artist. In the 1950s he worked in this capacity on major Hollywood productions such as The Ten Commandments and Ben Hur . In the mid-1960s he began working as an art director for television. He later oversaw film productions such as Zeit der Zärtlichkeit and Ein Ticket für Zwei . As a production designer he worked on Star Trek: The Movie and Mel Brooks - The Crazy History of the World, among others .

In 1980 he was nominated for the science fiction film Star Trek: The Film along with Joseph R. Jennings , Leon Harris , John Vallone and Linda DeScenna for an Oscar in the category of best production design, but the award went to the dance film that year Behind the spotlight . In 1984 there was a second nomination for the disaster film The China Syndrome together with Polly Platt , Tom Pedigo and Anthony Mondell . Michelson also lost out this year, winning the drama Fanny and Alexander .

Michelson worked several times with the directors Billy Wilder , Alfred Hitchcock and Mel Brooks .
