Jonas Freiherr von Königswarter (born August 10, 1807 in Frankfurt am Main , † December 23, 1871 in Vienna ) was an Austrian banker .

biography

Königswarter was the head of a banking house in Vienna, director of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank and president of the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Vienna . He was raised to the Austrian knighthood on March 25, 1860 in Vienna, and to the Austrian baron on October 26, 1870 there . The use of the title applied to him and his descendants. The baron was also awarded the Order of the Iron Crown 3rd Class (KD) and on September 24, 1870 for his meritorious work by Emperor Franz Joseph with the Order of the Iron Crown 2nd Class.

Jonas married his cousin Josephine Königswerter in 1829, recte : Königswarter, (* April 13, 1811 - May 14, 1861 ), sister of Baron Maximilian de Königswarter (1817–1878).

He was the builder of the Palais Königswarter in Vienna and was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Währing after his death . In 1941 his bones were exhumed and reburied in the New Jewish Department of the Vienna Central Cemetery (Gate IV).
