Jonas Schomburg (born January 31, 1994 in Hanover ) is a German triathlete and U23 World Champion Aquathlon (2016).

Career

Jonas Schomburg is active as a triathlete on the sprint and short distance. His father Arnd Schomburg (* 1965) also started as a national team athlete for Germany from 1992 to 2001 and finished fifth at the European Championships on the short distance triathlon in 1995.

Jonas Schomburg started for Turkey from 2014 to 2016 - with the aim of getting a starting place for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. In 2015 he finished sixth at the European Games in Baku.

U23 world champion aquathlon 2016

In August 2016 he finished second at the University World Triathlon Championships and in September he became U23 World Aquathlon Champion in Mexico. In 2016, he was ranked 39th in the ITU's annual ranking.

After a year under a neutral flag, he started again for Germany in October 2017. His goal is a start at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

In June 2017, the 23-year-old finished 19th in the elite class at the European championship on the sprint distance.

In 2018 he was accepted as one of eight athletes in the perspective squad (PK) of the German Triathlon Union (DTU).
