content

The metal artist Norbert Henze, called Jonathan, lives and works in the city of Osnabrück in Lower Saxony. In his art park he makes art objects from scrap metal. A recurring motif in his art are figures that he separates or cuts into metal with the arc of his plasma cutter . Jonathan describes them as "liberated souls". As an autodidact , he started art decades ago in order to process experiences from his past. Marcel Trocoli Castro, who directs the camera himself, accompanies him to places of his childhood and youth. Stations are u. a. a farming village in Lower Saxony, where he was forced into child labor by a farming family as a foster child , or the Dutch city of Amsterdam , where he had to earn his living as a young male prostitute. The main thread of the documentary portrait, however, is the relationship between the 66-year-old artist and his deceased mother. As a child, he was sexually abused by her.
