Joo Hyong-jun (also Joo Hyung-joon; kor. 주형준 ; born April 22, 1991 in Seoul ) is a South Korean speed skater .

Career

Joo had his first international success at the 2010 Short Track Junior World Championships in Taipei . There he won a gold medal with the relay. In the Speed ​​Skating World Cup he started for the first time at the beginning of the 2011/12 season in Chelyabinsk and finished fourth in the team pursuit and in the B group over 5000 m. At the following World Cup in Astana , he achieved his first podium finish in the World Cup with third place in the mass start. In the further course of the season he took second place three times in the team pursuit and eighth place in the mass start World Cup at the end of the season. At the individual distance world championships in 2012 in Heerenveen , he achieved 23rd place over 5000 m and seventh place in the team pursuit. In the following season he again achieved eighth place in the mass start World Cup. He finished second in the mass start in Heerenveen and also achieved second place twice and third place once in the team pursuit. At the individual distance world championships in Sochi in 2013 , he won the silver medal in the team pursuit and came 20th over 1500 m. At the 2013 Winter Universiade in Trentino , he won the bronze medal in the 1500 m and the gold medal in the all-around event. After two third places in the team pursuit at the beginning of the 2013/14 season in Calgary and Salt Lake City , he came second in the team pursuit in Berlin . At the season highlight of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, he won the silver medal in the team pursuit. He also achieved 29th place over 1500 m. In November 2015, he finished second in the team pursuit in Calgary. At the individual distance world championships in Kolomna in 2016 , he was fifth in the team pursuit. After third place in Harbin and second place in Nagano in the team pursuit at the beginning of the 2016/17 season, he finished 11th in the mass start at the 2017 Individual Distance World Championships in Gangwon .
