Jorg Hartig was one of the first artists in Austria to experiment with acrylic painting , which he discovered for himself in the 1960s. During his life, Hartig drew the greatest inspiration from his immediate environment - from phenomena of the modern world, civilization and culture. He mainly dealt with their appearances and crises, which gives his work a strong time-critical component. "He is one of the few artists of his time who began to create and represent a worldview again," said Claus Pack. “Hartig is not only a contemporary, but also a distanced artist, who succeeds in overcoming the so long forced, false individualism in general, to develop a cosmological awareness that seems appropriate to the situation of humanity and the world and does justice to it becomes."

Jorg Hartig's work is always tied to reality. At the beginning of a new work with Hartig there is usually an optical stimulus, which the artist gives spontaneously and emotionally painterly based on a constructive framework. He himself describes this as "REALPOP". In the sense of “look and recognize!” Hartig always addresses “the person”, wants to convey what he has “recognized” and at the same time awaken the “recognition” in the viewer. In his work he also tries again and again to give graphic expression to what is no longer comprehensible, at least with the mind. “The head has no place in art. The mind runs out very quickly. Emotions go deeper and persist, ”says Hartig. In contrast to the scientist, the artist cannot explain or prove the world - but he can interpret it and call this interpretation into consciousness through signs or “aha experiences”.

Hartig deals with topics that have repeatedly gained new meaning for him over the years, which he continues or thinks ahead in his work. Central thematic groups that metaphorically characterize both the artist himself and the respective time are in Hartig “movement”, “destruction”, “street”, “sex”, “ice cream sundae”, “car”, “cosmic horizons”, “vegetation” "And" Meditation ", as well as in the last few years especially the" Figure in the change of interpretation ".
