Jorge Kirchhofer Cabral (born May 30, 1903 in Recife , † October 17, 1962 in Rotterdam ) was a Brazilian diplomat .

Life

Jorge Kirchhofer Cabral was the son of Berta Luisa Kirchhofer (* 1875) and João Crisóstomo da Rocha Cabral (born January 27, 1870 in Jerumenha, state of Piauí ; † January 5, 1946 in Rio de Janeiro) and brother of Áureo Kirchhofer Cabral. He married Zuila Dias Marques.

On August 23, 1922, Cabral was appointed consular laborer and on October 9, 1922, assigned to the legation in London . With effect from November 3, 1923, he was a member of the mission at the League of Nations in Geneva , where he worked until November 18, 1924. With a telegram dated November 6, 1924, he was provisionally assigned to the legation in Zurich , before he worked as an auxiliary consul with the legation in Zurich from October 13, 1925 onwards.

On February 7, 1927, Cabral was given leave of absence so that from May 5, 1927 to October 31, 1928 he could fulfill his call-up to the Brazilian Army . Just a few months before the end of his term of service, he was deployed from August 31 to September 18, 1928 in Rio de Janeiro, then in Bern and from 1929 in Hamburg as Vice Consul. In the same function he was transferred to Chicago in 1938 and received exequatur as consul in Warsaw on February 18, 1939 . From September 18, 1939 to December 21, 1939 he was then used in Oslo as a consul of class K under the envoy of class M Carlos Alberto Moniz Gordilho and from November 12, 1940 as consul in Frankfurt am Main . From Frankfurt he wrote a letter to the Hamburg consul João Guimarães Rosa and on March 25, 1941 a six-page letter to Oswaldo Aranha , in which he outlined a restrictive visa policy. After Brazil declared war on the German Empire, Cabral was interned.

After the Second World War, Cabral was appointed consul to Bogotá from November 26, 1946 to September 1, 1947 and was appointed chargé d'affaires, before he was transferred to Frankfurt am Main again in 1955. From 1958 to 1961 he was given the office of Chargé d'Affaires in Damascus . Syria was part of the United Arab Republic at the time . Finally, in 1961, Cabral received an appointment as Consul General in Rotterdam .
