José Adolfo Mojica Morales (born September 25, 1936 in Tonacatepeque , El Salvador , † March 2, 2012 in Sonsonate ) was the Roman Catholic Bishop of Sonsonate .

Life

José Adolfo Mojica Morales was ordained a priest on October 25, 1964 . After pastoral work, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Sonsonate on November 18, 1989 . The Apostolic Nuncio in El Salvador and Honduras , Francesco De Nittis , donated him episcopal ordination on January 20, 1990 ; Co- consecrators were Arturo Rivera y Damas SDB , Archbishop of San Salvador , and Marco René Revelo Contreras , Bishop of Santa Ana . He was involved in the Bishops' Conference of El Salvador as long-time President of the Commission for Youth, Laity and Families and was thus closely connected to the population of El Salvador.

In February 2011 he was the victim of a robbery in the episcopal residence of Sonsonate. On October 8, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI. the resignation put forward by José Adolfo Mojica Morales for reasons of age and health. On November 17th, 2011 he was honored for his advocacy for moral and religious values ​​in the society of El Salvador with the highest honor of El Salvador "Hijo Meritísimo de El Salvador" (honorary citizen of the nation). He was an honorary citizen of Sonsonate; a main street in the city was named after him.

He died of complications from cancer.
