José Gabriel Díaz Cueva

José Gabriel Díaz Cueva (born June 13, 1925 in Cuenca ; † January 26, 2018 ibid) was an Ecuadorian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Azogues and auxiliary bishop in Guayaquil .

Life

José Gabriel Díaz Cueva was ordained a priest on October 15, 1950 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on January 13, 1964 auxiliary bishop in Guayaquil and titular bishop of Arae in Numidia . The Archbishop of Cuenca Manuel de Jesús Serrano Abad donated him episcopal ordination on March 3 of the same year . Co- consecrators were Bernardino Carlos Guillermo Honorato Echeverría Ruiz OFM , Archbishop of Guayaquil, and Luis Alfredo Carvajal Rosales , Auxiliary Bishop in Porto Velho .

In 1967 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Cuenca . On June 26, 1968, the Pope appointed him the first bishop of the diocese of Azogues, established on the same date . On April 29, 1975, Pope Paul VI. his resignation from the diocese of Azogues and reappointed him auxiliary bishop in Guayaquil. On December 18, 1999, shortly before the age limit of 75 , John Paul II accepted his resignation.
