José Pereira da Silva Barros

José Pereira da Silva Barros (born November 24, 1835 in Taubaté , São Paulo , † April 15, 1898 ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro .

biography

After graduation Silva Barros since entered a seminary and received at age 23 on December 27, 1858, the priestly ordination .

On March 15, 1881, da Silva Barros was appointed Bishop of Olinda and on May 13 of the same year by Pope Leo XIII. approved. The Archbishop of São Paulo , Lino Deodato Rodrigues de Carvalho , ordained him episcopal on August 28 of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, Pedro Maria de Lacerda , and the Bishop of Mariana , Antônio Maria Corrêa de Sá e Benevides .

On May 12, 1891, he was appointed Bishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro. With the elevation of the diocese to the archbishopric of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro on April 27, 1892 he was appointed its first archbishop.

On September 1, 1893, da Silva Barros retired from his offices in Rio da Janeiro and was appointed titular Archbishop of Darnis on December 2, 1895 .
