José Ríos

José Ríos ( José Ríos Ortega ; born March 15, 1974 in Premià de Dalt ) is a Spanish long-distance runner .

At first he specialized in the 10,000 meter run and was Spanish champion four times in a row from 2000 to 2003. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney he came in 18th place, the following year at the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton he was sixth, and at the 2002 European Athletics Championships in Munich, he won the bronze medal.

Then he switched to the marathon distance and qualified with a victory at the Biwa Lake Marathon in 2004 in 2:07:42 h for the Olympic Games in Athens , where he finished 27th. The following year he finished second on Lake Biwa, but did not finish at the World Cup in Helsinki . In 2006 he won the Lake Biwa Marathon again, and in 2007 he came 17th at the World Championships in Osaka .

In 2008 he finished sixth in the Lake Biwa Marathon with 2:09:38 for the fourth time under the 2:10 h mark, but only came 72nd at the Olympic Games in Beijing .

In 2009 he finished second at Lake Biwa.

José Ríos is 1.70 m tall and weighs 49 kg. He starts for CA Adidas and is coached by Juan Ramón Muñoz.
