action

Sophie, 20 years old, is pregnant and shows no joy about it. Because in the conception period of the child she woke up one morning to find that she had had sexual intercourse the previous night, when she had been drinking a lot. Your thoughts revolve around the questions: Who is the unwanted child from? - From her friend? - From a one night stand ? - Or was she even raped? - Should she keep the abortion appointment the next morning? - does she love her boyfriend? - Should she end the relationship with her boyfriend? - She has to choose.

Sophie, who had been looking for support from her boyfriend shortly before, leaves the apartment and drives off on his motorcycle. At suicidal speed she races through the streets of Hamburg, as far away as possible from her friend Manuel, who is always correct and understanding in the discussions. Sophie, overwhelmed to make up her mind in this state of emergency, begins another drinking tour through Hamburg at night. She goes to cheap pubs and also a brothel. The twenty-year-old gets to know men almost at random and by chance. In doing so, she does not avoid confrontations and risks being raped. So she also has an extensive conversation with the brothel owner Gigi, who wants to turn her into a whore. In this conversation she also mentions her name, Sophiiiie in her drunken state ! reads. She finds a little peace during a few aimless taxi rides, but the self-destructive moments predominate and the next morning she wakes up again with a bad hangover in the middle of a green area. In this condition, the street cleaner found her and took her to the hospital. There she will be restored and released.

Happy and happy to have gotten through the night, no longer thinking about an abortion, she calls a taxi driver from a small café and asks him to drive her home. However, before she can explain to the taxi driver where she is, convulsions overwhelm her. She miscarried in the cafe's toilet. Completely exhausted, with blood-smeared hands, she leaves the café with staggering steps. She calls a complete stranger from a phone booth and tells him her story. The man thinks she is a monster and shows no understanding. Once again she shows strength and defends herself by destroying the phone. Sophie, all alone and without support, weeping and mourning, buries the embryo in the park. The film ends with Sophie getting in front of an ICE , but miraculously surviving it.

Reviews

"A drastic case study, characterized by the intensity and persuasiveness of the leading actress, which exposes herself to the danger of sinking into naivety and flirtatious delusion, but in the next moment is affected by intense and oppressive moments of emotional despair."

“Hofmann alternates between action scenes and long planned sequences, sending his emotionally torn main character through the limbo populated with madmen. Katharina Schüttler [...] plays with energy and radicalism, hardness and fragility and was rewarded with the newly created "Förderpreis Deutscher Film" in the acting category at the Munich Film Festival. Hofmann received the award in the directing category. Sophiiiie is like a bloodcurdling scream that reverberates uncomfortably and the force of which you cannot escape, despite all reluctance. "

"The fact that the film leaves a lasting impression is of course mainly due to Katharina Schüttler in her first leading role. She stands out from a consistently respectable ensemble [...] and plays this Sophie with devotion so powerfully and at the same time vulnerable that we cannot deny her our sympathy. "
