José Ramón Larraz Gil (born 1929 in Barcelona ; † September 3, 2013 in Málaga ) was a Spanish comic book scenarist , cartoonist , film director and screenwriter .

Life

Larraz started working as an illustrator for various magazines in 1952. In France since 1954, he worked there with Marijac and wrote numerous newspaper strips for “Opera Mundi”. He later worked under various pseudonyms for various Franco-Belgian comic magazines. In 1967 Pilote only published a sequel with the name Yves la Brousse: Terreur au Bengale . In contrast, he worked at Spirou from 1967 to 1979. He developed (under the name Gil ) the comic figure "Paul Foran", of which eight stories were published in the magazine. (The last of these in 1979 under the pseudonym Watman.) In the meantime he was also active in Great Britain. He also worked as a fashion photographer. After turning to film directing, he was best known for his horror films and erotic works. He started shooting for British producers as JR Larrath from 1970 ; In 1976 Larraz went back to his native Spain, where he sometimes presented his work under the pseudonym Joseph Braunstein . In 1992 he made his last film.

After his first film Whirlpool , which he also wrote , he clearly turned away from the hammer and amicus productions, which differed in their explicitness from horror films. In 1974 he represented Great Britain with Symptoms at the Cannes International Film Festival . In Spain he dedicated himself to erotic fabrics , often for producer José Frade . Towards the end of his career and until 2002, Larraz also worked on television miniseries such as Viento del pueblo .

Larraz was also the author of several novels and the memoir Del tebeo al cine, con mujeres de película .
